A local authority responsible for implementing the MGNREGA scheme.

What is Area Employment Council (AEC) ?

The AEC is responsible for planning and implementing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) at the cluster level.

Formation & Structure

  • Formed at the cluster level, covering villages within a 2.5 km radius
  • Includes elected representatives from Village Employment Councils (VECs)
  • Has an elected Chairperson and Secretary managing operations

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Employment Generation: Ensures work is provided under the MGNREGA scheme.
  • Financial Oversight: Maintains records of all funds received and disbursed.
  • Project Implementation: Supervises public works and infrastructure projects.
  • Dispute Resolution: Refers jurisdictional conflicts to the Deputy Commissioner.
