What is Area Employment Council (AEC) ?
The AEC is responsible for planning and implementing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) at the cluster level.
Formation & Structure
- Formed at the cluster level, covering villages within a 2.5 km radius
- Includes elected representatives from Village Employment Councils (VECs)
- Has an elected Chairperson and Secretary managing operations
Roles & Responsibilities
- Employment Generation: Ensures work is provided under the MGNREGA scheme.
- Financial Oversight: Maintains records of all funds received and disbursed.
- Project Implementation: Supervises public works and infrastructure projects.
- Dispute Resolution: Refers jurisdictional conflicts to the Deputy Commissioner.
